Composition Studies, Fall 2012

Multigenreness, personal writing, and discomfort
Following some of the feelings expressed in my reflective essay, reading Julie Jung (2005) in AL878 Composition Studies (Fall 2012) gave me the opportunity to explore the ideas of discomfort and the place of personal expressive writing in academia, as well as the concept of multigenre writing. Writing this piece and reading and responding to the multigenre writing of my classmates has shaped my understanding of how to encourage students to value their personal stories and the use of the genres in which they are both comfortable and uncomfortable.

Common Book
Early in the semester, we were asked to identify a theme of interest and engage with it, both in regards to our course readings and activities and to our experiences outside the classroom. I identified "style" as my thread and was able to examine the ways in which styles of speaking, writing, dressing, acting, reading, thinking, affect us and our understandings of each other.
