Culture Matters

  • Culture Matters is a challenging project that asks students to critically examine the mundane objects around us and make a claim about what cultural values have led to the use or creation of those objects. Using inquiry into their object as a jumping-off point, students develop their scholarly research and analytical skills as they develop and defend a thesis that shines a light on what values and beliefs shape our society.
  • Learning goals for Culture Matters:
Strengthen our analytical and research skills
Practice creating, supporting, analyzing, and defending an argument
Use critical thinking to gain awareness of how objects have cultural significance and how our culture affects our actions and perceptions.
