Peer Review Using Desire2Learn

Using a dummy Desire2Learn page provided by my instructor, I designed a peer review activity utilizing Desire2Learn's Discussion Board function, which would allow students to work at their own pace while reading their peers' writing, as well as the Chat Session function, which facilitates real-time interactions with classmates. Students will also synthesize feedback received from their peers' into a revision plan.

Automated Essay Grading: Proceed with Caution

By engaging with several scholarly and editorial pieces written about automated essay graders, I was able to conclude that while these programs may have some benefits in terms of grading large-scale English proficiency exams or as writing aides for students, they should be used sparingly when applied to composition, due to their inability to discern logic, audience awareness, and other rhetorical skills. However, as I have never worked with one of these programs, I would reserve final judgment until given that opportunity.

An Ideal Technology-Infused Composition Classroom

As a synthesizing moment for the course, I was able to describe my ideal technology-infused composition classroom. The classroom I describe would be most conducive to a classroom of adult learners in a community college setting, as not all students might have access to the same technologies outside of the classroom.
